Sarah’s Wildlife Projects

Protect, Preserve, Promote

Sarah passed away in October 2020, aged just 29, during emergency surgery at the BRI after suffering an aortic dissection this while awaiting planned heart surgery in London. Sarah was a committed professional Environmental Consultant and an avid nature and wildlife lover. We have established Sarah’s Wildlife Projects to support projects which we think Sarah would like to see us support in her name with the donations she and her friends and colleagues have contributed.

We have so far:

  1. Developed with the Avon Gorge and Downs Wildlife Project (AGDWP) a Family Tree Trail around the Clifton Observatory and Promenade. The trees have tags with QR codes to link to our respective websites for key facts and fun tasks
  2. Updated and printed banners for the Wildflower Chart that we saw on a wall at Avon Wildlife Trust’s Grow Wilder site and liked but which did not seem to be available for wider use. Thanks to Shaun for finding the original electronic files and instructing on the technical updates and corrections and great to see he and team at Grow Wilder using banners in their wildflower sales and planting activities. We have just managed to get the design printed as a chopping board and these look good. Available at £20 plus p&p. Email paul.booley@sarahswildlifeprojects.org if interested.
  3. Sponsored the refreshing of 4 of the Avon Gorge and Downs Nature Project Information Boards on the Clifton Downs – at the Clifton Observatory, at Peregrine Watch, at Seawall, and at the entrance to the Downs from Blackboy Hill. Thanks to Mandy then leading the Project for this as a great thing for us to help on.
  4. Sponsored dormouse boxes for Leigh Woods and most recently
  5. Had a Bat Walk in Leigh Woods for some of Sarah’s friends and colleagues. Thanks very much to My Green World (Anna) for organising this.
  6. Bought 10 Bat Boxes for Paradise Bottom, Leigh Woods, one of Sarah and Buddy’s favorite walking areas. Thanks very much to Forestry England (Nikki) for their agreement and support to mount the bat boxes.
  7. Bought 4 Bat Boxes for Avon Wildlife Trust’s Weston Moor Nature Reserve on the North Somerset Levels, selected as part of their monitoring and perhaps mitigation of development across the Levels. Thanks very much to the AWT (Jennie and Frankie) for their support and for mounting these.

We are keen to continue supporting these organisations in their initiatives and are looking at a few more little things that Sarah would approve of and her Friends and Colleagues might be interested in further supporting.
